This year, Eco Moyo marked World Water Day with a powerful, creative, and meaningful celebration that left a lasting impression on students and staff alike.
Although the official date for World Water Day is March 22, our event was held on Friday, March 21, 2025, since the 22nd fell on a Saturday when students are not in school. The adjusted date allowed the entire school community to take part in raising awareness about one of the most pressing challenges facing our region: access to clean water.
🚶 Marching for water
The day began with a symbolic march where all children, boys as well, walked to the nearby forest and back — a simulation of the long journeys many families in the area must take to find water. This was not just an activity, but a living lesson to help students understand and reflect on the real-life struggles of many in their community.
Our students proudly carried handmade posters and banners featuring water-themed messages, highlighting both the value of clean water and the urgent need to protect this vital resource. From creative slogans to colorful artwork, their enthusiasm was inspiring.
Each class from grades 3 to 6 prepared a poem or song about water. These moving performances touched on everything from the beauty of rivers and rainfall to the challenges of water scarcity. The event culminated in a workshop that explored:
The role of water in our daily lives
The importance of clean water for health and development
Simple ways to conserve water at home and school
The global and local impact of water scarcity
A Tough Year for Water
This year has been especially difficult for our school when it comes to water. Normally, we purchase 3–4 truckloads of fresh drinking water per year. In 2025, however, we’ve already had to purchase 10 trucks — more than double the usual amount. The rising cost and scarcity of water are real challenges we face, and they make events like World Water Day even more important.
