3,000 Seeds for a Greener Future

We have partnered with Green World Organization, who will be working with Eco Moyo through ongoing workshops with parents focused on tree planting, environmental care and how families can be part of creating a greener future.

Together, we have planted around 3,000 Casuarina seeds at Eco Moyo. Right now, they may not look like much, but hopefully these small seeds will grow into strong seedlings ready for transplanting. When they are mature enough, the children and parents will receive them to plant at their homes and farms.

We loooove this kind of project because it is practical, local and long-term. It is not only about talking about the environment, but actually doing something together with the community. The parents who attended the workshop learned more about why tree planting matters, how to care for young trees and how this can support both the environment and families over time.

Deforestation is a major challenge in Kenya, and tree planting is one of the ways communities can help restore land, protect soil and create more sustainable local environments. At Eco Moyo, we have always cared about trees, shade, food production and making better use of the land around us, so this partnership feels like a very natural fit.

For the children, it is also a chance to be part of something bigger. They get to see the whole process: planting seeds, caring for seedlings and eventually bringing trees home to plant with their families. Hopefully, in a few years, some of these trees will be growing around homes in the community, started from tiny seeds planted here at school.

We are very proud to be part of this initiative and grateful to Green World Organization for coming to Eco Moyo, sharing their knowledge and helping us continue building more sustainable solutions together with our community.

We hope this was just the first out of many nurseries to be made, both in Eco Moyo and Dzunguni, and we cant wait for these little babies to grow big!!! 🌱🌱🌱🌱

About Casuarina Casuarina trees are fast-growing evergreen trees that do well in coastal areas, especially where the soil is sandy and the weather can be hot, salty and windy. When they grow, they can provide shade, help protect the soil from erosion and be used for timber, poles or firewood. For families, this can become useful both at home and as a possible source of income later on.

Another good thing is that mature Casuarina trees produce seeds, which means new seedlings can be grown again in the future. So if they are cared for well, this is not just one round of tree planting, but something that can continue and grow over time.
