  • What does a day in school look like?
The school gate opens at 6:45 AM, marking the start of the day. The first classes commence at 7:00 AM and continue until 9:15 AM. Following this, a breakfast break occurs where each class receives a bucket of porridge, evenly shared among students. Post-breakfast, regular classes resume. Most Physical Education (P.E) classes take place during the early hours when the sun's intensity is lower, making outdoor activities comfortable. Lunchtime arrives at 12:40 PM, with all classes enjoying their meals outside their respective classrooms. After lunch, the youngest students (PP1-PP2) are allowed to leave, accompanied to the gate by their teachers. Classes 1-2 continue until 3:00 PM, while other classes conclude their school day between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM. Additionally, there's a cherished daily tradition of football practice at Eco Moyo, frequently joined by former students. This activity is highly valued by both students and teachers alike. The schedule provides a balanced blend of academic learning, physical engagement, meals, and extracurricular pursuits.

  • How does the school system in Kenya work?
The Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) system focuses on developing a wide range of competencies and skills in learners to prepare them for the global world. Under the new system, students begin their educational journey with 2 years of pre-primary education (preschool) before moving on to primary school for 6 years. The primary school has lower and upper tiers, each covering 3 grades. This means that primary school covers grades 1 to 6. Next, students attend junior secondary school for 3 years, followed by 3 years of senior secondary school, depending on their competencies and natural talents. Finally, students can proceed to 3 years of university or other tertiary education. As this new system is gradually introduced, starting in 2023 and fully in use by 2027, students in senior secondary school will be divided into three tracks based on their natural talents and competencies: Creative Arts and Sports, Social Sciences, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
  • How do you select the students?
To attend Eco Moyo the children must live within the geographical boundaries of Dzunguni, however we limit our classes to 25 students per teacher.
  • Do you have many orphans?
Some of our students are orphans but we run a normal day school for all children from our village.
