Our First Adult Literacy Club Is Here!

We’re incredibly proud (and a little emotional!) to share that we’ve just started our very first adult literacy club — and 30 women from our village have signed up!
These amazing women — mothers, aunties, grandmothers — now come twice a week to Eco Moyo to learn how to read and write. For many of them, this is the first time ever setting foot in a classroom. Most of these women were never given the chance to attend school growing up — not because they didn’t want to, but because of gender biases, traditional roles and social expectations. Boys have often been seen as the future breadwinners, while girls were expected to stay home and take on domestic responsibilities. Education was simply not prioritized for them.
This is a huge step, not just for them personally, but for our whole community. It’s about sense of community, creating opportunities and helping parents feel more confident and involved in their children’s learning — so they can take a more active role in their children’s education at home.
We’re honestly over the moon to see how many signed up for this first round. We hope it’s just the beginning of something long-term and growing — the first of many literacy clubs to come.
This also marks a HUGE milestone for Eco Moyo.
We now have:
200 children at our primary school
70 youths supported through secondary school
30 women in our brand new adult literacy club.
That’s 300 people (!!!!) we’re actively supporting through education — across generations!
Holy crap. 😄
We’re honestly blown away and so proud of what this project has become — and how it continues to grow and evolve every day.
