Welcome back Karmøy!!

This March we welcomed Karmøy Folkehøgskole to Eco Moyo for the third year in a row. Their annual visit has become a steady and valuable part of our school year. The group lived on the school grounds, spent time with the children, joined activities and contributed in ways that made a clear difference.

Everyday interaction

The Karmøy students were present in classes and during breaks, teaching games and engaging with the children in an easy and natural way. Our pupils enjoy meeting visitors and these interactions expose them to new ideas and ways of communicating. The group also took time to walk through the village and understand the environment many of our students come from.

Drama class collaboration

This year the Karmøy group worked closely with our drama class. They arrived with an Africa-inspired version of Little Red Riding Hood already prepared and spent the week teaching the children the roles and storyline. Our students have not seen much theatre before, so this mix of acting, movement and humour was both new and hilarious for them. They loved it. In fact, they enjoyed it so much that they rehearsed it again and put on a show for their parents on Closing Day.

First ever Girls Football Tournament! On International Womens Day, we invited surrounding schools girls teams to celebrate with a Girls Football Tournament and what a success!! Both boys and girls from our village and area around came to cheer for the girls - where Eza Moyo Girls went home with the trophy - as always ;)

Visiting a local public school

The group also visited a nearby public school. For many it was the first time seeing the contrast between Eco Moyo and the reality in many government schools. Large class sizes, limited resources and overcrowded classrooms made a clear impression. Several students shared that this visit helped them understand why Eco Moyo’s approach matters and how targeted support creates real opportunities for children in rural Kilifi.

Experiencing daily life at Eco Moyo

Living on the school grounds, eating local food and following our routines gave the group a direct look into the daily life of Eco Moyo. It is a simple setting but it allows visitors to stay close to the work they came to be part of.

A partnership that benefits both sides

Long-term cooperation with folkehøgskoler like Karmøy strengthens our programmes and brings useful exchange for both students and staff. Their continued commitment shows how schools can integrate Eco Moyo into their global engagement in a way that is practical, responsible and meaningful.
