The International Day of the Girl Child is a reminder that leadership comes in many forms. You don’t have to hold a title or stand on a stage to lead — leadership can mean using your voice, standing up for a friend, helping at home, or daring to do something differently.
This year’s theme, “The Girl I Am: The Change I Lead,” celebrates exactly that. Every girl has the ability to lead in her own way — in her family, her school and her community. Leadership starts with confidence and the belief that your actions matter, no matter how small they seem.
At Eco Moyo we see this kind of leadership every day — in girls who support each other in class, take responsibility, or show kindness when it’s needed most. During our Girls’ Day we were joined by inspiring guest speakers who talked about courage, self-belief and the power of small acts of change.
One of our grandmothers shared a moving poem in true Giriama style, telling her story of being married young and missing the chance to finish school. Today her granddaughter studies at Eco Moyo, and she herself comes to learn to read and write. Her wish is simple but powerful: that her granddaughter will have the opportunities she never had.
Change starts with education, and with every girl who believes she can make a difference. 💚
At Eco Moyo, nurturing leadership among girls is a natural part of daily life. We encourage them to speak up, take initiative and make decisions — whether in the classroom, through clubs or in the way they support one another. Leadership here is not about position, but about confidence, empathy and action. Every time a girl helps a friend, asks a question or dares to try something new, she shows what real leadership looks like.💚
